**Agartala, Tripura, India –** Tensions between India and Bangladesh escalated following a mob attack on the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission (AHC) in Agartala on Monday. The incident, sparked by the arrest of a Hindu monk in Bangladesh, led to the indefinite suspension of visa and consular services by the AHC.
Three Tripura police sub-inspectors were suspended for negligence in their duty to protect the AHC. Seven protesters from the Hindu Sangharsh Samiti were detained in connection with the breach, with authorities reviewing CCTV footage and social media posts to identify further culprits.
In response to the attack, security has been significantly heightened around the AHC, with deployments of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) troops, and the establishment of multiple checkpoints. Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the incident.
Protests against alleged atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh continued in Agartala on Tuesday, with a rally organized by the right-wing Sanatani Yuba. Furthermore, the Tripura Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association announced a temporary ban on accommodating Bangladeshi nationals in protest of the deteriorating communal situation. Hindu organizations vowed to continue protests until the release of Prabhu Chinmoy Krishna Das, the arrested Hindu leader in Bangladesh. The situation highlights the ongoing sensitivity surrounding religious tensions and their impact on bilateral relations.
