Wed Dec 04 13:02:41 UTC 2024: ## Telangana Hit by Strongest Earthquake in 20 Years
**Hyderabad, December 4, 2024** – A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck Mulugu district in Telangana this morning at 7:27 AM IST, sending tremors across the state and into neighboring Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. The quake, the strongest to hit Telangana in two decades, had a depth of 40 km and its epicenter was located near the Godavari riverbed in Mulugu.
Residents in Hyderabad, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Sultanabad, Odela, and Kalva Srirampur reported feeling the tremors, which lasted for several seconds. One Hyderabad resident described experiencing a feeling of vertigo before learning of the earthquake.
District officials in Warangal, Hanamkonda, Mahabubabad, and Mulugu have confirmed that no significant damage to property or loss of life has been reported. However, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) and weather experts are urging caution, particularly given the numerous large irrigation projects located along the Godavari River.
The tremors were also felt in several parts of Andhra Pradesh, and reports of light tremors emerged from Nagpur and Gadchiroli districts in Maharashtra, consistent with the IMD’s explanation that such tremors are common within 200-300 km of an earthquake’s epicenter.
