**Taipei, Taiwan** – Celebrated Taiwanese author Qiong Yao, known for her prolific romantic novels and influential impact on Taiwanese cinema and television, passed away at the age of 86 on October 4th. She was found deceased at her home in Tamsui District, New Taipei City. While initial reports indicated suicide, later reports simply stated she passed away at home.
Qiong Yao’s death sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry. Many stars whose careers were launched by her works expressed their grief and gratitude. Actress Lin Xinru, who starred in the iconic *My Fair Princess*, described Qiong Yao as her first benefactor, crediting her with launching her career. Other actors and actresses, including Ruby Lin, Brigitte Lin, and Yu Xiaovan, shared their condolences and reminisced about their experiences working with her. Singer Li Yijun also expressed her shock and sadness, revealing she had recently urged Qiong Yao to take care of her health. Singer Gao Shengmei described her as a “benefactor” and expressed regret that their meeting at a recent anniversary concert would be their last.

Five days before her death, Qiong Yao posted on Facebook a tribute to her late husband, Ping Xintao, reflecting on their life together. Her final Facebook post, written by a family member, used lyrics from the song “When the Snow Falls” as a farewell message.
