**Taipei, Taiwan** – Acclaimed Taiwanese author Qiong Yao, known for her prolific works adapted into popular films and television dramas, passed away on December 4th at the age of 86. Multiple Taiwanese media outlets reported that she was found deceased in her home in Tamsui District, New Taipei City at approximately 1:22 PM.
According to reports citing Qiong Yao’s son, she left a suicide note instructing her secretary to check on her at midday. Upon arriving at the residence, the secretary discovered Qiong Yao lifeless in her room. Emergency services were immediately contacted, but paramedics arrived to find Qiong Yao deceased and without vital signs. Therefore, no medical assistance was administered.
Qiong Yao, whose real name was Chen Zhe, hailed from Hengyang, Hunan Province, China. She was a celebrated author, screenwriter, film producer, and lyricist. Her works, including the wildly popular “My Fair Princess” (还珠格格) trilogy, “A Dream of Love” (一帘幽梦), and the “Plum Blossom Three Melodies” (梅花三弄) series – comprising “Plum Blossom Mark” (梅花烙), “Ghost Husband” (鬼丈夫), and “Between the Clouds and the Mist” (水云间) – have captivated audiences for generations and left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.
