Wed Dec 04 08:50:00 UTC 2024: ## NEC Launches AI Agent Service to Automate Complex Business Tasks

**Tokyo, Japan –** NEC Corporation announced plans to launch a new AI agent service in January 2025, aiming to automate complex business processes using a combination of AI and IT services. The announcement was made at NEC Innovation Day 2024, where executives highlighted the service’s ability to evolve and adapt dynamically.

The service addresses the challenges businesses currently face in utilizing generative AI. While many organizations are leveraging generative AI for efficiency gains, creating effective prompts and integrating multiple AI systems remains a hurdle. NEC’s solution integrates its own generative AI, “cotomi,” with other AI and IT services to create a self-managing system capable of handling complex tasks.

The initial offering will focus on high-level business functions such as strategic planning, human resource management, and marketing. The AI agent will autonomously break down user requests into manageable tasks, selecting and executing the most appropriate AI and IT tools. For instance, a request for “a training strategy for new hires” would result in the AI generating a comprehensive training plan by autonomously gathering and analyzing information and generating relevant documents.

NEC executives acknowledged the challenge of social acceptance of AI in Japan, particularly concerning the potential for errors (hallucinations). They emphasized the need for a societal shift where AI is viewed as a colleague, subject to human oversight and review, similar to how human colleagues’ work is checked.

NEC aims to generate approximately ¥50 billion (approximately $340 million USD) in revenue from its generative AI business by the end of fiscal year 2025. The company plans to expand its AI agent services to offer more specialized functions and further support improved productivity and efficiency for businesses.
