Wed Dec 04 06:28:36 UTC 2024: **Congress Deceives Disabled, Accuses MLC Kavitha**

Hyderabad, December 3: MLC Kavitha Kalvakuntla has accused the Congress government of betraying the disabled in Telangana by failing to implement election promises. Meeting with representatives of the Telangana Disabled Federation on World Disability Day, she highlighted the BRS government’s increase in disability pensions from ₹500 to ₹4000, a record high among Indian states. She lauded the BRS government’s initiatives, including subsidized loans for self-employment and a fourfold increase in the welfare budget for the disabled. However, she sharply criticized the Congress for not fulfilling its election promise of ₹6000 disability pensions, despite a year passing since the election. She further alleged that the Congress government is neglecting the implementation of the RPwD Act of 2016 and not properly enforcing reservations for the disabled. The Federation representatives submitted a memorandum to MLC Kavitha requesting her to raise issues like double bedroom houses, subsidized loans, and pension hikes in the council.

The meeting also saw discussions on secularism, with MLC Kavitha expressing concerns about the Congress government’s alleged weakening of unity in several parts of the state and stressing the need to protect secularism against anti-secular forces. She praised Chief Minister KCR’s efforts to uphold secularism and assured continued efforts to protect it. Representatives from Christian communities also met with MLC Kavitha, discussing the preservation of secularism in Telangana and expressing concerns about BJP-fueled hatred.

Finally, MLC Kavitha also stated that Telangana Jagruti is pressurizing the government to increase reservations in local body elections and thanked the representatives from the BC Dedicated Commission for their report on caste census. She highlighted the organization’s ongoing fight for quotas for BC women and support for BC movements across the country.
