Wed Dec 04 04:50:23 UTC 2024: **5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Telangana; Tremors Felt in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar Division**
Raypur, Chhattisgarh: A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck Mulugu district in Telangana at approximately 7:30 AM on Wednesday, sending tremors across the Bastar division of Chhattisgarh. Residents in Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada, and Jagdalpur reported feeling the tremors. In Bijapur, the shaking was strong enough to cause panic, with people rushing out of their homes. The earthquake caused damage to a school in Bakawand, resulting in injury.
A 12-year-old seventh-grader, Gupteshwar Kashyap, suffered a fractured thigh when a school gate collapsed on him. The incident occurred after school hours as the boy was closing the gate. Despite the injury occurring a week ago, the boy’s impoverished parents are unable to afford proper medical treatment, relying instead on home remedies. The Block Education Officer (BEO), Srinivas Mishra, claims to be unaware of the incident, stating that an official report is pending. While the Block Resource Coordinator (BRC) Son Singh Baghel claims to have provided some financial assistance and visited the child in hospital, criticism is directed at the lack of immediate and sufficient support for the injured student. The school principal and teachers claim to have been present at the time of the incident and to have taken the child to the hospital for initial treatment. This highlights concerns about the response to the injured child and the condition of the school infrastructure.
