**Queens, NY –** Aliya Fakhri, 43, sister of Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, has been arrested and charged with the murders of her ex-boyfriend, Edward Jacobs (35), and his friend, Anastasia Ettienne (33). Fakhri allegedly set fire to a two-story garage in Queens, New York, on November 2nd, trapping the victims inside.
According to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, Fakhri arrived at the garage early in the morning and shouted threats before igniting the blaze. Jacobs, who lived upstairs, was asleep at the time. Ettienne, alerted to the fire, attempted to rescue Jacobs but both perished from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.
A witness described a terrifying scene, recounting the smell of burning and seeing a couch engulfed in flames on the stairs. The witness escaped by jumping over the fire, but Ettienne, after initially escaping, bravely returned to attempt a rescue, ultimately losing her life.
Fakhri has been indicted on four counts of first-degree murder, four counts of second-degree murder, and arson. She faces a potential life sentence if convicted on the top charge. The court has remanded her into custody, with her next appearance scheduled for December 9th.
The relationship between Fakhri and Jacobs, who had broken up a year prior, was reportedly abusive. Jacobs’ mother told the New York Post that her son was working to convert the garage into an apartment and that Fakhri had previously threatened to burn down his house.
Fakhri’s mother expressed disbelief at the allegations, describing her daughter as caring and helpful, attributing her actions to struggles with opioid addiction stemming from a dental incident. Nargis Fakhri has yet to publicly comment on the matter. The investigation continues.
