Mon Dec 02 19:38:16 UTC 2024: ## BJP Promises Delhi Women Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme

**New Delhi, December 3, 2024** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has pledged to introduce a direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme for women in Delhi if elected to power in the upcoming Assembly elections. This announcement, made by South Delhi MP and BJP manifesto committee chief Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, coincides with the launch of the party’s “Sankalp Yatra” campaign.

The proposed scheme, currently in draft form, is seen as a key strategy to attract women voters, mirroring the success of Maharashtra’s Ladki Bahin Yojana. That scheme, which provides a ₹1,500 monthly stipend to women aged 21-65, significantly contributed to the BJP-led coalition’s electoral victory.

While the specifics of the BJP’s Delhi DBT scheme remain undisclosed, Mr. Bidhuri assured voters that existing AAP government initiatives like free water, electricity, and free bus rides for women would not be eliminated but improved upon.

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), however, dismissed the BJP’s promises as mere election rhetoric (“election jumlas”), alleging that the BJP would discontinue these popular programs if voted into power. AAP had previously announced its own ambitious scheme to provide a ₹1,000 monthly honorarium to women aged 18 and above, a plan that is yet to be implemented. The upcoming Delhi Assembly elections promise a fierce contest over the crucial women’s vote.
