**Srinagar, Kashmir –** The 60th anniversary of the World Craft Council concluded in Srinagar, Kashmir, this week, celebrating the region’s rich artisanal heritage and launching a significant new initiative. The four-day event (November 25-28) brought together artisans from 15 countries, showcasing diverse crafts ranging from Iranian miniature painting to Laotian textile weaving and Turkmen camel wool craftsmanship.

A key announcement from the event was the introduction of a “Seal of Authenticity of the Craft,” a certification designed to protect the integrity of Jammu and Kashmir’s centuries-old handmade goods. The initiative will initially focus on the textile industry, with the aim of establishing Srinagar as a globally recognized center for artisanal excellence. The event organizers hope this will help preserve traditional techniques and boost the local economy.
