Tue Dec 03 04:33:50 UTC 2024: ## Madras High Court to Hear Plea for Three-Day Ban on Online Movie Reviews
**Chennai, December 3, 2024** – The Tamil Film Active Producers Association (TFAPA) has petitioned the Madras High Court to temporarily ban online movie reviews. The association seeks a three-day moratorium on reviews appearing on platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X, starting from a film’s theatrical release.
The petition, filed through counsel Vijayan Subramanian, cites significant financial losses suffered by recent big-budget films due to negative online reviews appearing immediately after release. The TFAPA argues that these reviews, often appearing before a wider audience has had a chance to see the film, unfairly impact box office performance. The recent underperformance of Suriya’s “Kanguva” is cited as a prime example.
The court will hear the petition on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024, before Justice S. Sounthar. The TFAPA is also requesting the Centre and the Tamil Nadu government to establish guidelines for online film critics. The ongoing tension between filmmakers and online critics underscores a growing concern within the Tamil film industry about the impact of immediate online reviews on box office success.
