Mon Dec 02 16:30:00 UTC 2024: **Hindu Seer Seeks Exemption from Police Questioning Due to Health Concerns**
Bengaluru, December 2, 2024 – Vishwa Vokkaligara Maha Samsthana seer Chandrashekaranatha Swami, who faces charges under Section 299 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly making controversial anti-Muslim remarks, has sought exemption from appearing for police questioning on health grounds. The 81-year-old seer, in a letter to the Upparpete police, stated that he is a cancer patient and requires rest for at least ten days. He offered to appear for questioning on December 18th, or alternatively, suggested the police record his statement at the mutt.
The seer was summoned following a complaint by social worker Syed Abbas, who alleged that Swami’s remarks about revoking Muslim voting rights incited religious hatred. While Swami has since issued an apology, the police investigation continues. The investigating officer is currently seeking guidance from superiors on how to proceed.
