Mon Dec 02 15:51:01 UTC 2024: ## East Coast Railway Cracks Down on Train Food Vendors

**VISAKHAPATNAM, December 2, 2024** – The Waltair Division of East Coast Railway has launched a major crackdown on food vendors operating at railway stations and on trains under its jurisdiction. The surprise inspections, which began in November, aim to address passenger complaints regarding overcharging, promote digital payments, and improve overall food safety and hygiene.

A 20-member team conducted surprise checks at over 10 food stalls at Visakhapatnam station and on various trains, verifying food quality, pricing, and adherence to Maximum Retail Price (MRP) regulations. Defaulting vendors received warnings and penalties, according to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager K. Saandeep.

The initiative extends beyond price checks. The railway is working to combat unauthorized vending through increased RPF deployment and intensified Commercial Department inspections. Food Safety Officers are certifying catering units, and regular customer satisfaction surveys are being conducted to gauge passenger experiences. Scheduled and surprise inspections by Railway, IRCTC, and Food Safety officials will continue.

The Waltair Division is committed to maintaining high standards of food quality, fair pricing, and the reliable availability of essential services for passengers.
