New Delhi, December 3, 2024 – The Trinamool Congress (TMC) today urged the Indian government to request the United Nations to deploy peacekeeping forces to Bangladesh, citing rising violence against religious minorities. Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha during Zero Hour, TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay highlighted reports of torture and killings of minorities, including Hindus, in Bangladesh following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in August. He expressed concern over the alleged over 200 attacks on Hindus across 50 districts since then and criticized the government’s silence on the matter, demanding an update from External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Bandyopadhyay emphasized the direct impact on neighboring West Bengal, historically affected by influxes of refugees from Bangladesh.
