Tue Dec 03 06:57:35 UTC 2024: ## Kerala CPI(M) Expels Rebel Leader Hours Before Planned BJP Switch

**Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala –** The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] expelled party member Madhu Mullassery from its primary membership on Tuesday, preempting his anticipated defection to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The expulsion follows Mullassery’s outspoken criticism of the party’s district leadership, including district secretary V. Joy, during a recent area committee conference in Mangalapuram.

According to CPI(M) district secretary Joy, Mullassery’s actions violated party decisions and he faces accusations of corruption and misconduct. Joy also announced his intention to sue Mullassery for libel.

BJP representatives, including district president V.V. Rajesh, visited Mullassery at his home following the expulsion. Rajesh confirmed that BJP State president K. Surendran will formally welcome Mullassery into the party at a function at the state headquarters. The swift expulsion and subsequent welcoming by the BJP highlight escalating factionalism within the CPI(M) in Thiruvananthapuram.
