**Hassan, Karnataka –** A promising young IPS officer, Harsh Bardhan, 26, died in a road accident on Sunday, just days after completing his training. The 2023-batch officer, a native of Madhya Pradesh, was travelling to his first posting in Hassan district when the accident occurred.
Police reports indicate a tire burst on the police vehicle Bardhan was in, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle subsequently collided with a house and a tree, resulting in severe head injuries for Bardhan. Despite receiving medical treatment, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The driver sustained minor injuries.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his condolences, stating on X (formerly Twitter), “It is very sad that such an accident happened while he was on his way to take charge as an IPS officer. This should not have happened when years of hard work were paying off.” He offered his prayers and condolences to Bardhan’s family. Former Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda also mourned the loss, describing it as a tragic loss for India.
Bardhan, who had recently completed his four-week training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru, was en route to Holenarasipur to begin his duties as a probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police.
