**Conakry, Guinea –** Dozens of soccer fans, including children, were killed in a stampede at a stadium in Nzerekore, Guinea, on Sunday. The tragedy occurred during the final match of a local tournament following fan clashes and the use of tear gas by security forces.
According to local media and a coalition of political parties, the stampede erupted after a disputed penalty call sparked violence among spectators. Fans threw stones, prompting security forces to deploy tear gas, which further fueled the chaos and led to a mass exodus from the stadium. Videos circulating on social media show fans running and jumping over fences to escape the pandemonium, with many people subsequently lying injured on the ground.
Guinea’s Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah confirmed the deaths on X (formerly Twitter), stating that victims were recorded during the stampede, though he did not provide a specific number. The National Alliance for Alternation and Democracy, a coalition of political parties, however, reported that dozens were killed and injured.
