Mon Dec 02 19:57:03 UTC 2024: ## Bombay High Court Slams CID Over Handling of Custodial Death Case

**Mumbai, December 3, 2024** – The Bombay High Court sharply criticized the State Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Monday for its handling of the investigation into the custodial death of Akshay Shinde, the prime accused in a Badlapur sexual assault case involving two kindergarten girls. Shinde was shot dead by police on September 24th, 2024.

A division bench expressed serious concerns about the fairness of the CID’s investigation, stating that its conduct “raises major concerns, doubts and a wrong inference” that the agency is deliberately withholding information from the Magistrate conducting an inquiry into the encounter. The court questioned the CID’s thoroughness, demanding a complete and proper investigation.

The judges directed the CID to gather all relevant documents and submit them to the Magistrate, emphasizing the importance of a fair investigation. The case has been adjourned until January 20, 2025, with the Magistrate ordered to submit a comprehensive report to the court by that date. The High Court’s strong rebuke highlights serious concerns about the transparency and effectiveness of the investigation into Shinde’s death.
