**Madurai, December 2, 2024** – The Mullaperiyar dam in Kerala released a significant volume of water on Sunday, December 1st, despite moderate rainfall in the region. The water level stood at 119.90 feet (maximum permissible level: 142 ft), with an inflow of 211 cusecs and an outflow of 755 cusecs. Simultaneously, the Vaigai dam recorded a water level of 56.82 feet (maximum level: 71 ft), with an inflow of 612 cusecs and an outflow of 670 cusecs. The combined storage in the Periyar system was 4,049.45 mcft. Rainfall in the past 24 hours was minimal, ranging from 0.1 mm in Madurai to 2.6 mm in Chittampatti. The situation is being monitored closely.
