Mon Dec 02 16:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Red Bull to Part Ways with Sergio Pérez After 2024 Season

**Abu Dhabi, UAE –** Red Bull Racing is expected to end its partnership with Sergio Pérez at the conclusion of the 2024 Formula 1 season, sources have told ESPN. While Pérez signed a contract extension earlier this year, Red Bull is reportedly planning to transition him into a broader ambassadorial role within the company.

The decision follows a disappointing season for Pérez, who hasn’t finished in the top six since May’s Miami Grand Prix. His poor performance is largely blamed for Red Bull’s drop to third in the constructors’ championship, trailing McLaren and Ferrari. Team principal Christian Horner hinted at the change after the Qatar Grand Prix, stating that the situation was “not nice” for Pérez. Discussions regarding the next steps are scheduled for December 9th.

Liam Lawson, who filled in for Daniel Ricciardo at the US Grand Prix, is considered the frontrunner to replace Pérez. Other young drivers, including Franco Colapinto and Isack Hadjar, were considered, but ultimately deemed unsuitable. Hadjar is expected to partner Yuki Tsunoda in the coming season.

Pérez’s future remains uncertain, though his substantial popularity in North America could lead to opportunities with Cadillac’s potential entry into Formula 1 in 2026. The substantial point gap between Pérez and his teammate Max Verstappen (227 points) further solidified Red Bull’s decision.
