**Erode, December 2, 2024** – Unexpected heavy rainfall disrupted the morning commute in Erode and surrounding areas on Monday. While the Chennai Meteorological Department had predicted heavy to very heavy rain, the downpour, which lasted from 7:15 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., caught many off guard.
The rain affected students, office-goers, and motorists, causing significant inconvenience. Although overnight showers led to some waterlogging on main roads, traffic remained largely unaffected. However, evening showers further hampered vehicle movement.
The district recorded a total rainfall of 227.20 mm by 8:00 a.m. Varied rainfall amounts were reported across different areas, with Chennimalai receiving the highest at 27 mm, followed by Perundurai (20 mm), Varattupallam Dam (18 mm), and other locations receiving between 9 mm and 17.60 mm. The unexpected rainfall caused significant disruption to the daily routines of Erode’s residents.
