Mon Dec 02 07:48:43 UTC 2024: ## Parliament Adjourned Amidst Opposition Protests
**New Delhi, December 2, 2024** – The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the day on Monday, marking the fifth day of the Winter Session of Parliament. The adjournment followed continued disruptions caused by opposition parties demanding discussions on the Adani issue, the Manipur violence, and the situation in Sambhal.
Both houses were adjourned shortly after reconvening at noon, having been stalled since the morning. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar rejected 20 notices seeking discussion under Rule 267, citing a deliberate attempt to impede the House’s functioning.
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi stated that the opposition had met with the Speaker, urging him to ensure the smooth running of Parliament. JMM leader Mahua Maji, referencing a meeting of INDIA alliance floor leaders, highlighted the importance of discussing the Manipur situation and the Adani issue, suggesting the ruling party was intentionally causing the adjournments.
The Winter Session, which began on November 25th and is scheduled to conclude on December 20th, has been significantly hampered by these disruptions from its outset.
