**New Delhi** – The Trinamool Congress (TMC) skipped a crucial INDIA bloc meeting today, signaling a divergence from the Congress party’s strategy of focusing solely on the Adani Group indictment in Parliament. The TMC cited its desire to raise several key national issues, including price rise, unemployment, and the Manipur unrest, as reasons for its absence.
Sources within the TMC stated that the party feels sidelined by the Congress’s singular focus on the Adani matter. They highlighted that the TMC is the only party in the INDIA bloc not in an electoral alliance with the Congress, leading to a feeling that they are not obligated to adhere to the Congress’s agenda.
While the Congress continues to demand a parliamentary discussion on the US Department of Justice indictment of Adani Green executives, the TMC has voiced its intention to address a broader range of pressing issues. These include the aftermath of Cyclone Fengal, violence in Uttar Pradesh, concerns over ISKCON monks in Bangladesh, and delays in paddy procurement in Punjab. The Adani Group has denied any wrongdoing.
TMC leaders have consistently emphasized their priority on issues affecting West Bengal, including the state’s outstanding dues from the central government. This stance was reiterated by TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who stated the party would prioritize Bengal’s concerns. Senior TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar clarified that the party does not support disrupting Parliament, but instead wants a balanced discussion on multiple issues.
The ongoing impasse over the Adani issue has led to repeated adjournments and disruptions in Parliament, with the session concluding on December 20th. The TMC’s decision further highlights the challenges faced by the INDIA bloc in maintaining a unified approach in Parliament.
