**Guwahati, India –** Indian Railways is stepping up its commitment to passenger comfort and hygiene with the launch of new, high-capacity laundry facilities. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has opened a state-of-the-art laundry center in Guwahati, capable of processing 32,000 bedrolls daily, along with blankets and pillowcases. This tunnel-based system boasts advanced technology designed to optimize water, power, steam, and chemical usage.
Meanwhile, the North Western Railway (NWR) is also enhancing its linen services. An automated washing plant in Jaipur is already providing clean linen to passengers, with plans for significant expansion underway. NWR officials stated that their current capacity stands at 56 tonnes and is set to increase further to meet growing demand.
Both NFR and NWR emphasized their commitment to providing clean, well-ironed linen for all passengers in AC sleeper classes. All linen is washed in mechanized laundries after each use, ensuring a hygienic travel experience. This initiative reflects Indian Railways’ broader strategy to utilize advanced technology to improve passenger comfort and satisfaction.
