Mon Dec 02 08:08:00 UTC 2024: ## Nepal’s PM Oli Begins Historic China Visit
**Kathmandu, Nepal –** Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli commenced a four-day official visit to China on Monday, December 2nd, 2024. This marks his first trip to a neighboring country since assuming office and a departure from the traditional practice of Nepali Prime Ministers prioritizing India for their initial foreign visit.
The visit, at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang, includes meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and discussions on various issues of mutual interest. A 39-member delegation, including Mr. Oli’s spouse, accompanies him. The agenda includes a keynote address at Peking University and a meeting with Zhao Leji, Chair of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.
While Mr. Oli is considered pro-China, his coalition government aims for balanced relations with both China and India. A key focus of the visit is expected to be the revival of stalled Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects, signed seven years ago. Nepal was an early BRI signatory in South Asia. The BRI is a large-scale infrastructure development strategy connecting China to several continents.
