Mon Dec 02 06:23:57 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Traffic Gridlocked as Farmers Stage ‘Delhi Chalo’ March
**NOIDA, INDIA** – Heavy traffic congestion and security measures have gripped Delhi and Noida as thousands of farmers began a “Delhi Chalo” march towards the Parliament complex on Monday. The protest, organized by the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) and other farmer groups from across 20 districts, aims to pressure the central government to meet their key demands regarding agricultural laws.
Videos circulating online showed significant traffic snarls at locations like the Chilla border and the DND flyway, with vehicles moving at a crawl or completely at a standstill. In response, Noida Police issued a traffic advisory, outlining several alternate routes to alleviate congestion. These include diversions via Sector 14-A flyover, Film City flyover, Mahamaya flyover, and other designated routes.
The farmers, representing groups such as the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, have been protesting since February, demanding guaranteed compensation, benefits under new agricultural laws, and other concessions. Their five key demands include increased compensation for land acquisition, employment benefits for landless farmers’ children, and the implementation of High Power Committee recommendations.
BKP leader Sukhbir Khalifa stated that the march would proceed from the Maha Maya flyover in Noida, aiming to reach the Parliament complex by midday to present their demands. Security has been heightened across Delhi, with police conducting vehicle inspections at various checkpoints. The situation is expected to cause significant disruption throughout the day.
