Sun Dec 01 11:21:06 UTC 2024: ## Pakistan Court Grants Remand for 156 PTI Workers Arrested During Islamabad Protest

**ISLAMABAD, Dec 1, 2024** – An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad has approved the police remand of 156 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers arrested during a November 24 protest in the city. The court granted a four-day physical remand for 139 individuals and an additional four-day remand for 17 others. The request for the remand was made by the investigating officer, who alleged that anti-riot kits and sticks were recovered from the detained PTI workers.

The arrests followed a sit-in protest at D-Chowk, where PTI members breached barricades in an attempt to reach the city center. A subsequent midnight crackdown resulted in four deaths and over 50 injuries, according to reports. While police sources stated that approximately 450 protesters were arrested, the PTI claimed the number of casualties was in the hundreds. The party condemned the crackdown as a “massacre” under a “fascist military regime.”

The court rejected a request for the physical remand of two female detainees, instead ordering their judicial remand. The women alleged they were denied food and water during their detention. The protest ended after the crackdown, forcing Imran Khan’s supporters to evacuate D-Chowk and the adjacent business district.
