**Hassan, Karnataka –** A promising young IPS officer, Harsh Bardhan, tragically lost his life in a road accident on Sunday evening, just hours before he was to begin his first posting. The 2023-batch officer, hailing from Madhya Pradesh and recently completing training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru, was en route to Holenarasipur in Hassan district to assume his duties as a probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police.
The accident occurred near Kittane in Hassan taluk when a tire on the police vehicle Bardhan was travelling in burst, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle subsequently crashed into a house and a tree. While the driver, Manjegowda, sustained minor injuries, Bardhan succumbed to severe head injuries despite receiving immediate medical attention.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his condolences, stating on X (formerly Twitter) that the accident was a tragic loss and offered prayers for Bardhan’s family.
This incident comes on the heels of another fatal road accident in Tumkur district. A private bus returning from Goa crashed into a road divider on Monday morning, killing three passengers and injuring over 20 others. The injured were taken to a local hospital, and a police investigation is underway.
