**CHENNAI, INDIA—** In its December 2024 update, Taste Atlas, a popular food and travel guide, has placed Chicken 65, a South Indian fried chicken dish, at number three on its list of the world’s best fried chicken. This spicy delicacy, marinated in ginger, lemon, red chilies, and other spices, climbed significantly from its tenth-place ranking in August 2023.
The top spot on Taste Atlas’s list went to Korean Fried Chicken (Chikin), followed by Japan’s Karaage. Other Asian dishes, including Ayam Goreng (Indonesia), Zhaziji (China), Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken, and Ayam Penyet (Indonesia), also featured in the top ten.
The Taste Atlas ranking highlights the global popularity of fried chicken and the increasing recognition of Indian cuisine on the international stage. This is not the first time Indian dishes have received accolades from Taste Atlas; the site previously ranked several Indian stews and bean dishes highly in its respective rankings.
