**Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu – December 2, 2024** – Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu, sharply criticized the ruling DMK government for its handling of recent devastating floods in Villupuram and Krishnagiri districts. Palaniswami toured flood-affected areas in Uthangarai and Pochampalli on Monday, witnessing firsthand the damage to roads and the destruction of numerous vehicles, many belonging to drivers relying on the Sabarimala pilgrimage season for income.
He attributed the severe flooding in Villupuram to the government’s alleged inaction on desilting the Kozhiyaanur drainage channel, a project the AIADMK had advocated for since September. He claimed the channel, last desilted in 2016, could have mitigated the flooding. Furthermore, Palaniswami criticized the government’s response to a red alert issued days prior to the heavy rainfall.
“The people of Villupuram spent a sleepless night due to the inefficiency of the DMK government,” Palaniswami stated, drawing a contrast to the Chief Minister’s recent tweets about sleepless nights during the AIADMK’s tenure. He demanded compensation for affected vehicle owners and farmers whose crops were submerged. The AIADMK leader’s visit highlighted the escalating political tension surrounding the government’s flood response.
