**New Delhi:** Avadh Ojha, a prominent UPSC educator with a large online following, has joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The announcement was made Monday, with AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia present. Ojha cited the AAP’s work in the education sector as the main reason for his decision. Both Kejriwal and Sisodia praised Ojha’s accomplishments.
Ojha, who is reportedly seeking the AAP ticket to contest the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections in the Patparganj constituency—previously held by Sisodia— boasts over nine lakh YouTube subscribers. His decision follows unsuccessful attempts to secure Lok Sabha tickets from both the BJP and Congress earlier this year.
Sources within the AAP indicate the party expects Ojha to leverage his significant social media presence to influence voters. While he previously met with Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, sparking speculation of a BJP affiliation, the BJP ultimately did not offer him a ticket. His subsequent approach to the Congress also proved unsuccessful.
Ojha’s past statements reveal a politically fluid stance. He has publicly praised both Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. He also gained attention earlier this year following a fatal flooding incident at a Delhi UPSC coaching centre, advocating for strong action against those responsible. The AAP is hoping Ojha’s popularity and name recognition will provide a significant boost to their campaign.
