Mon Dec 02 09:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Five Fishermen Missing After Boat Capsizes in Alaskan Storm

**Juneau, Alaska** – Five people are missing after their 50-foot fishing vessel, the *Wind Walker*, capsized in treacherous conditions off the coast of southeastern Alaska early Sunday morning. The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a mayday call at 12:10 a.m. but received no further communication from the boat.

The Coast Guard located the capsized vessel south of Point Couverden in Icy Strait following an emergency beacon alert. While initial reports indicate five people were aboard, the Coast Guard cautions that this number is unconfirmed.

Rescue crews, including a helicopter and response boat, battled six-foot waves, heavy snowfall, and 60 mph wind gusts during the search. They recovered seven cold-water immersion suits and two strobe lights from the water.

The ferry AMHS Hubbard arrived at the scene first after hearing the Coast Guard’s urgent broadcast. The search continues under challenging conditions, with a small craft advisory and winter storm warnings remaining in effect for the area. The National Weather Service predicts additional snowfall before a transition to rain and snow mix by Tuesday.
