Mon Dec 02 15:23:21 UTC 2024: **Over 3,500 Runners Participate in Udupi Marathon**

MALPE, INDIA – The “Lombarde Hospital Udupi Marathon-2024” took place in Malpe on Sunday, attracting over 3,500 participants from across India and several international runners from Ethiopia, Kenya, Germany, and Uganda. The event, jointly organized by Udupi Runners Clubs, was flagged off by Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna at Malpe Seawalk at 5:00 AM.

The marathon included a 21km half marathon, a 10km run, a 5km run, and shorter fun runs for school children (5km and 3km). A total of 250 runners completed the half marathon, 750 the 10km, 850 the 5km, and 1050 children participated in the shorter races. An additional 525 runners took part in the fun run. The races concluded at 9:00 AM at the Seawalk.

MLA Yashpal Suvarna emphasized the importance of health in achieving personal goals, highlighting the marathon’s role in promoting a healthy lifestyle and fostering sportsmanship among youth. Dr. Sushil Jattan, director of Udupi Mission Hospital, stressed the event’s aim to improve physical and mental well-being, especially given the rise in heart attacks.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony for the winning athletes. Several dignitaries attended, including representatives from Adani Group, Malpe Fishermen’s Association, and Udupi Cochin Shipyard.
