Mon Dec 02 08:04:47 UTC 2024: **Chennai Court Sentences H. Raja to Six Months Imprisonment in Two Cases**

CHENNAI, December 2, 2024 – A special court in Chennai has sentenced H. Raja, the Tamil Nadu BJP co-ordination committee president, to six months imprisonment in each of two separate cases. The cases stemmed from social media posts in 2018, one threatening to damage a Periyar statue and another containing criticism of DMK MP Kanimozhi.

The court, which handles cases involving MPs and MLAs, found Raja guilty of the charges. While Raja’s defense argued there was no proof he would damage the statue and that his comments about Kanimozhi were politically motivated and that the complaint against him was filed by a third party and not Kanimozhi herself, the judge ruled that the prosecution had successfully proved that the posts originated from Raja’s social media account.

Raja was sentenced to six months imprisonment and a fine of ₹5,000 in each case. However, the sentence has been stayed pending appeal.
