**Hassan, Karnataka:** A 26-year-old IPS officer, Harsh Bardhan, died in a road accident in Hassan district on Tuesday, police said. Bardhan, from Madhya Pradesh, was a 2023 batch Karnataka cadre IPS officer undergoing training. He was on his way to assume his first posting as Assistant Superintendent of Police at Holenarasipur police station when the accident occurred.

The accident happened near Kittana when a tire burst on the police vehicle he was travelling in, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle veered off the road, colliding with houses and trees. Bardhan sustained severe injuries and died despite being rushed to a hospital. The driver, Manjekauda, is undergoing treatment for injuries.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his condolences to Bardhan’s family on X (formerly Twitter), stating his deep sorrow at the tragic accident and offering prayers for the officer’s soul. He highlighted the irony of the accident occurring on the day Bardhan was to begin his career.
