**Hassan, Karnataka:** A 26-year-old IPS officer, Harsh Vardhan, died in a road accident on Sunday evening while traveling to his first posting in Hassan district, Karnataka. Vardhan, a 2023 batch IPS officer from the Karnataka cadre and a resident of Singrauli district, Madhya Pradesh, was reportedly on his way to Holenarasipur to assume duty as a probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

According to police, the accident occurred near Kittane in Hassan district when the tire of Vardhan’s vehicle burst, causing the driver to lose control. The car subsequently crashed into a house and a tree. Vardhan sustained severe head injuries and succumbed to them in the hospital, while the driver received minor injuries.

Vardhan had recently completed his four-week training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysore. His father is a sub-divisional magistrate.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his condolences on X (formerly Twitter), stating his sadness at the tragic loss and offering prayers for Vardhan’s soul. He extended his sympathies to the officer’s family.
