Sun Dec 01 00:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Cyclone Mandous Brings Heavy Rains to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
**Visakhapatnam, December 1, 2023** – Cyclone Mandous, which originated in the southwest Bay of Bengal, made landfall this morning at 4 AM, as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The cyclone crossed the coast between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu, with winds reaching speeds of 90 kilometers per hour.
The IMD forecasts that Mandous will weaken into a depression later today as it moves westward. Heavy rainfall is currently lashing Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. The IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Andhra Pradesh’s Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra, and Yanam regions throughout December 1st. Telangana is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall in isolated areas.
Satellite imagery suggests heavy rain will continue throughout the day in East Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra, while West Rayalaseema anticipates moderate rainfall. East Telangana may also see some moderate showers. Both states are expected to experience cloudy conditions throughout the day.
Wind speeds are currently at 45 kmph over the Bay of Bengal, while Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are expected to experience winds at 12 kmph and 15 kmph, respectively. Temperatures in Telangana are expected to be around 27°C during the day and 22°C at night, while Andhra Pradesh will see highs of 26°C and lows of 24°C. High humidity levels (above 70% in Telangana and 80-90% in Andhra Pradesh) will contribute to the rainfall.
The IMD is advising residents of Ongole, Nellore, Tirupati, Kadapa, Anantapur, and Guntur districts in Andhra Pradesh to remain vigilant due to the expected heavy rainfall.
