**Chennai, November 30, 2024** – The Greater Chennai Police launched rescue operations on Saturday, saving several senior citizens stranded in their waterlogged homes following heavy rainfall. The police control room fielded 34 rain-related emergency calls, including reports of fallen trees at 28 locations.
Notable rescues included 60-year-old Samanthi, found sick and alone at her home in Vepery. Police provided her with food and transported her to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. In Washermenpet, 65-year-old Ammaji was rescued from her flooded house and given shelter at a private residence. The K.K. Nagar police also rescued three senior citizens, ages 97, 87, and 78, from their flooded home and relocated them to a relative’s house.
Furthermore, the Kasimedu police rescued 17 individuals from the inundated Singaravelan Pallam, providing temporary shelter at a Greater Chennai Corporation school. The swift action by the Chennai Police highlights their commitment to assisting vulnerable citizens during emergencies.
