Sat Nov 30 20:42:24 UTC 2024: ## Dolby Atmos Drives into Indian Auto Market with Mahindra Partnership

**CHENNAI, December 1, 2024** – Dolby Laboratories has announced its entry into the Indian automotive market, partnering with Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) to bring Dolby Atmos immersive audio technology to its electric vehicles. This marks Dolby’s first foray into the Indian car sector, following its success in China.

M&M’s BE 6e and XEV 9e electric SUVs will be the first Indian vehicles to feature the 16-speaker Dolby Atmos system, boasting a 1400-watt amplifier across 15 channels. The high-performance setup includes tweeters, mid-woofer drivers, a subwoofer, and ceiling speakers.

Javier Foncillas, Dolby’s Global Vice President for Commercial Partnerships, highlighted the significant opportunity in the Indian market. Dolby, already working with 16 international automakers, including 10 in China, aims to replicate that success in India. Foncillas stated that discussions are underway with other Indian manufacturers, with further announcements expected soon. The company also plans to integrate Dolby Atmos into additional Mahindra models.

M&M officials cited the desire for a “world’s best speaker system” as the reason for choosing Dolby Atmos. Dolby, known for its audio technology in cinema, home theaters, and personal devices, is now expanding its reach into the premium automotive segment, aiming to equip all car brands with its technology in the future. The company recently reached one million installations globally and anticipates doubling that number with its expansion into India.
