Sun Dec 01 02:27:40 UTC 2024: ## Chennai Rains Disrupt Train Services, Metro Responds to Flooding
**Chennai, India –** Heavy rains lashing Chennai due to Cyclone Fengal have caused significant disruptions to train services and prompted a swift response from the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL). The Southern Railway announced the cancellation of one train and diversions for two others.
The Dr. MGR Chennai Central – Jolarpettai Yelagiri Express (16089) scheduled to depart at 5:55 PM on November 30th has been entirely cancelled. Two other trains, the Gorakhpur – Thiruvananthapuram Raptisagar Express (12511) and the Dhanbad – Alappuzha Express (13351), will be diverted via Korukkupet and Perambur, bypassing Dr. MGR Chennai Central. Both diverted trains will make an additional stop at Perambur station. Passengers are urged to contact railway authorities for updated information.
Meanwhile, CMRL is actively managing waterlogging issues across its Phase 2 project sites. Significant waterlogging in Karapakkam is being addressed using high-powered pumps, and the situation is reportedly improving. CMRL has deployed teams across all Phase 2 sites to monitor the impact of Cyclone Fengal and mitigate flooding.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that Cyclone Fengal will make landfall between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram on Saturday evening, bringing winds of 70-80 kmph, with gusts reaching 90 kmph. The cyclone is currently positioned approximately 100 km east-northeast of Puducherry and 100 km southeast of Chennai.
