BOSTON, MA – Boston Logan International Airport experienced unprecedented chaos Monday evening with two separate plane collisions on the tarmac within hours of each other. The incidents, which resulted in damaged aircraft but no serious injuries, are currently under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the involved airlines.
The first collision involved an American Airlines plane arriving from London Heathrow and a Frontier Airlines plane preparing for departure to Dallas-Fort Worth. While taxiing, the American Airlines aircraft clipped the wing of the parked Frontier plane, causing significant damage. Passengers described the sound as a “thump,” and the Frontier flight was subsequently canceled. Although frightening, no injuries were reported.
Hours later, a second incident occurred when a JetBlue Airbus A321, being towed, struck a parked Cape Air plane at a gate. The Cape Air flight, which had just arrived from Nantucket, had two pilots and three passengers onboard at the time. While no injuries were reported, both pilots were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. JetBlue provided a replacement aircraft for affected passengers after a delay.
The FAA is conducting a thorough investigation into both incidents to determine the cause of these unusual occurrences. The airlines involved are also conducting their own internal investigations. While the airport experienced significant disruption, its operations have since resumed.
