Sat Nov 30 17:13:07 UTC 2024: ## Controversial Youngster Suryavanshi’s IPL Dream Takes a Hit After U19 Debut

**Jeddah, Saudi Arabia/Chennai, India** – Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 13-year-old (although his age has been questioned) cricketer who made headlines after being purchased by the Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.1 crore at the IPL mega auction, experienced a less-than-stellar debut in the U19 Asia Cup. The youngest-ever player to register for the IPL auction, Suryavanshi’s maiden appearance against Pakistan on Saturday ended with a solitary run from nine balls before being dismissed by Ali Raza.

Despite the underwhelming performance, Suryavanshi’s father, Sanjiv, dismissed concerns about his son’s age, stating that Vaibhav underwent a BCCI bone test at 8.5 years old and has already played for India U-19. He reiterated his son’s eligibility for further age testing if needed.

The young batsman, who cites Brian Lara as his cricketing idol, remains focused on improving his game. Speaking to Sony Sports Network, Suryavanshi stated he is unfazed by the surrounding controversy and is concentrating on the Asia Cup before taking things “game by game.”

Suryavanshi’s meteoric rise includes a first-class debut for Bihar in January 2024 at just 12 years and 284 days old, and a recent U-19 match against Australia where he scored a 58-ball century. His first-class record stands at 100 runs from five matches, with a top score of 41. He is currently participating in the Ranji Trophy and has also played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Despite his recent struggles, Suryavanshi’s remarkable journey continues to capture the attention of the cricketing world.
