**Hyderabad, [Date]:** The construction of a grand statue of ‘Telangana Thalli’ (Mother Telangana), destined for the state secretariat, is nearing completion. Sculptor Veera Chari has been leading the project for three months near Koheda, Pedda Amberpet Municipality.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy inspected the statue on Friday and instructed the sculptor to ensure its flawless completion for the unveiling ceremony scheduled for September 9th. The government has maintained strict secrecy regarding the statue’s design, aiming for a surprise reveal to the public. Even the CM’s visit to the site was kept under wraps by the police.
The statue’s creation was entrusted to the Fine Arts College of Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, Masab Tank. CM Reddy guided the design process, specifying that the statue should reflect Telangana’s culture and traditions, portraying a mother’s joyful embrace of her familial responsibilities. Several designs were presented before the final one, created by Professor T. Gangadhar, was selected by the CM. A clay model was initially made, which served as a guide for the final 20-foot bronze statue.
Professor Gangadhar, who also designed the Indira Gandhi statue at PV Marg Junction, has a history of designing statues for prominent figures. He presented approximately 50 designs for the Indira Gandhi statue before the final design was approved by then CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy and Sonia Gandhi.
This new ‘Telangana Thalli’ statue promises to be a significant addition to the state’s landscape.
