**IDUKKI, KERALA –** The Kerala state government announced plans to draft a special policy to create a fully women-friendly tourism sector, aiming to make Kerala the world’s safest tourism destination. This announcement was made by Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas at the inauguration of the three-day Global Women Conference on Gender Inclusive and Responsible Tourism in Munnar.
The conference, organized by the Kerala Responsible Tourism Mission Society (KRTMS), is the world’s first responsible tourism conference focusing on gender inclusivity. Minister Riyas stated that a gender audit of the current tourism sector is underway, informing the development of the new policy. International experts are participating in the conference to contribute to this initiative.
Kerala Tourism Secretary Biju K. highlighted the participation of leading Indian politicians and international experts, aiming for a policy that serves as a global model. The Gender Audit Report, presented by Tourism Director Sikha Surendran, indicates plans for regular audits in the future. The State Responsible Tourism Mission CEO, Rupeshkumar K., called the conference a significant step towards gender justice and safe travel for women. The event features prominent figures in global tourism, showcasing Kerala’s social commitment on the world stage.
