Sat Nov 30 10:44:33 UTC 2024: ## Bengaluru’s Textile Recovery Facility Prevents Clothing Waste from Reaching Landfills
**Bengaluru, India (November 30, 2024)** – A new initiative in Bengaluru is revolutionizing textile waste management by diverting used clothing from landfills and creating sustainable livelihoods. The Textile Recovery Facility (TRF) in Hirandahalli processes used clothes collected from several city wards, upcycling, recycling, and downcycling them for resale.
This project, a collaboration between the Circular Apparel Innovation Factory (CAIF), an Intellecap initiative; Hasiru Dala, an NGO; and Saamuhika Shakti, a not-for-profit empowering waste pickers, aims to establish a comprehensive value chain for post-consumer textile waste. The process begins with the collection of used clothing from homes and follows a multi-stage system designed for inclusivity and sustainability. The TRF ensures that no clothing ends up in landfills, promoting a circular economy and providing alternative income opportunities for waste pickers. A detailed report on the process and its impact can be found on The Hindu’s website.
