Sat Nov 30 08:23:17 UTC 2024: ## Overseas PTI Supporters Hold Protests After Islamabad Clashes
**Washington, D.C. & Islamabad, November 30, 2024** – Supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, led by imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan, staged protests globally following violent clashes in Islamabad. In Washington D.C., PTI supporters gathered outside the Pakistani embassy, holding prayers for those killed in the Islamabad demonstrations. Similar demonstrations took place in Mississauga, Canada, and over 60 other locations worldwide.
The Islamabad protests, which began as calls for Khan’s release, escalated into violence on Tuesday. Four security personnel and two PTI supporters were killed in the clashes, which saw protestors confronting security forces near D-Chowk, the heart of Islamabad’s government district. Police responded with tear gas.
The United States has responded to the escalating situation, with the State Department urging the Pakistani government to respect human rights and freedoms. Spokesperson Matthew Miller called for peaceful resolution and close monitoring of the events. Despite the US statement, PTI supporters remain defiant, raising concerns about further escalation. The situation in Pakistan remains tense, with security heightened amidst ongoing protests.
