Fri Nov 29 18:57:36 UTC 2024: ## Telangana Embraces Skill-Centric Education to Combat Unemployment

**Hyderabad, November 30, 2024** – Telangana is implementing sweeping reforms to its education system to address a rising urban unemployment rate among young graduates. According to a new report released Friday by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the state is shifting towards a skill-centric model. This includes introducing vocational training as early as sixth grade, integrating skill-based education into 30% of the traditional curriculum, and prioritizing technology and soft skills development.

The CII’s “Bridging the Gap Report,” prepared in collaboration with EY Parthenon, highlights the need to align education with industry demands. CII-Telangana chairman Sai Prasad emphasized the importance of a multi-faceted approach, including stronger industry-academia partnerships. A key component of this strategy is making internships mandatory not only for students but also for faculty members. This initiative aims to ensure educators stay abreast of industry trends, improving teaching methods and better preparing students for the workforce.

Telangana is also studying the vocational training models of Germany, Japan, and Australia, seeking to emulate their success in fostering sustainable economic growth and workforce readiness. The report further emphasizes the urgent need for curriculum integration of vocational training and industry-aligned skills to combat the current skills gap and high unemployment rate among young people.
