Fri Nov 29 20:03:58 UTC 2024: **Delhi L-G Demands Tabling of Pending CAG Reports**
New Delhi, November 30, 2024 – Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena has urged Delhi Chief Minister Atishi to immediately table 12 pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports in the Delhi Assembly. The reports, covering crucial areas such as state finances, public health, and environmental regulations, have been delayed since June 2022.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Mr. Saxena expressed serious concern over the delay, accusing the Delhi government of deliberately withholding the reports to avoid public scrutiny. He highlighted that the CAG office has repeatedly sent reminders to the Delhi government. The L-G emphasized the constitutional obligation to table these reports, stating that the delay constitutes a “gross constitutional impropriety.”
The BJP, which has been vocal about this issue, had a delegation meet with the L-G before walking out of the Assembly’s Friday session in protest. This session is expected to be the last before the February elections. The BJP MLAs have also filed a petition with the Delhi High Court, which has expedited the hearing to December 2nd.
Mr. Saxena’s letter praised Ms. Atishi’s leadership, while simultaneously urging her to uphold public trust by tabling the reports. He noted that he had previously raised this issue with former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Assembly Speaker. The L-G also sent letters to the Chief Secretary and Finance Secretary on the matter in September.
