**Lucknow, India** – Top-seeded Indian shuttlers P.V. Sindhu and Lakshya Sen secured comfortable victories in the second round of the Syed Modi International Super 300 badminton tournament in Lucknow on Wednesday.
Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, defeated rising Indian star Anmol Kharb in straight games, 21-17, 21-15. Returning to competition after a two-year absence, Sindhu will next face compatriot Ira Sharma, who defeated Deepshikha Singh in the opening round.
Sen, the 2021 World Championship bronze medalist, also progressed easily, overcoming Malaysia’s qualifier Sholeh Edil 21-12, 21-12. He will face Israel’s Daniel Dubovkov in the next round.
Other Indian players who advanced to the second round include Kiran George, Ayush Shetty, and Meiraba Luwang Maisnam in the men’s singles, and Malvika Bansod, Anupama Upadhyaya, Isharaani Baruah, Devika Sihag, Unnati Hooda, Tasnim Mir, and Shrianshi Valisheth in the women’s singles. Notable women’s singles wins included Bansod’s 21-16, 21-7 victory over Victoria Dabaksin, and Upadhyaya’s hard-fought 19-21, 22-20, 21-15 win against Azerbaijan’s Khesha Fatima Azhara. Unnati Hooda also secured a win over Thailand’s Thamonwan Nittikrai.
