Fri Nov 29 21:36:54 UTC 2024: ## CBI Files Chargesheet in RG Kar Hospital Corruption Case, But Court Rejects it

**Kolkata, [Date]** – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet on Friday against five individuals implicated in a financial irregularities scandal at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Former principal Sandip Ghosh is named as the prime accused. The 100-page document also names four others arrested in connection with the case: Biplab Singh, Afsar Ali, Suman Hazra, and Ashish Pandey. Over 1,000 pages of supporting documents were submitted.

However, the Alipore Special CBI court rejected the chargesheet due to a lack of required approval from the West Bengal government. This approval is necessary before charges can be filed against state government employees, and both Ghosh and Pandey are doctors employed by the state-run hospital.

The chargesheet alleges financial fraud spanning over three years, including rigged tenders for medical equipment purchases, allegedly facilitated by Ghosh to benefit his associates. Ghosh’s arrest on September 2nd followed the August discovery of a deceased on-duty medic at the hospital, an event that brought the hospital’s financial irregularities to national attention.
